The Pendragon Film Society was set up in 2005 to investigate and debate what makes great cinema. The society’s annual greatest films of all-time list is compiled from external polls and ballots and from the website’s contributors.


Sight & Sound is a British monthly film magazine published by the British Film Institute (BFI). Every decade, Sight & Sound asks an international group of film professionals to vote for their greatest films of all time. Since 1952 Critics have been asked to provide a top ten list and in 1992 directors were invited to participate in a separate poll.


They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They? was started in May 2003 by cinema enthusiasts from Adelaide, Australia as a resource for all those interested in films and specifically the directors who make them. The 2020 list of the 1,000 Greatest Films of all-time was primarily compiled by using 6,620 individual critics’ and filmmakers’ personal lists/ballots of their favourite/best films.


Cahiers du Cinéma is an influential French film magazine founded in 1951 by André Bazin, Jacques Doniol-Valcroze and Joseph-Marie Lo Duca. It included amongst its writers, future directors Jacques Rivette, Jean-Luc Godard, Claude Chabrol and François Truffaut.


Rotten Tomatoes is a website devoted to reviews, information, and news of films, most widely known as a film review aggregator. The name derives from the historical cliché of throwing tomatoes and other vegetables at stage performers if a performance was particularly bad.

Film4 is a free digital television channel available in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, owned and operated by Channel 4, that screens films.

 


Time Out is a publishing company based in London, England. The company’s best known product is the Time Out weekly listings magazine. The listing magazines for particular cities contain information about events in film, theatre, fashion, literature and all other artistic events happening, as well as eat out and night out sections.


The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is a British public service broadcaster. The BBC is the world’s oldest national broadcasting organisation and the largest broadcaster in the world by number of employees. It is established under a Royal Charter and operates under its Agreement with the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.


Halliwell’s film guide is a highly respected English publication often praised for being the biggest and best film guide and a must have for all silver screen buffs.


The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) is an online database of information related to movies, television shows, actors, production crew personnel, video games, and most recently, fictional characters featured in visual entertainment media. It is as subsidiary of Amazon.

The Hollywood Reporter (THR) is a multi-platform American digital and print magazine founded in 1930 and focusing on the Hollywood film industry, television, and entertainment industries, as well as Hollywood’s intersection with fashion, finance, law, technology, lifestyle, and politics.


The Village Voice was a free weekly newspaper in New York City, United States featuring investigative articles, analysis of current affairs and culture, arts reviews and events listings for New York City.  It was founded in 1955 by Dan Wolf, Ed Fancher and Norman Mailer and continues online.


Films101 is a website that organises the films that have been strongly recommended by critics and filmmakers. The bulk of the Films101 database comes from all-time best movie lists and movie awards.

The Times is a daily national newspaper published in the United Kingdom since 1785, when it was known as The Daily Universal Register. The American Film Institute is an American film organisation that educates filmmakers and honours the heritage of the motion picture arts in the United States. The popular AFI 100 Years… series, which ran from 1998 to 2008, and created jury-selected lists of America’s best movies in categories including Musicals, Laughs and Thrills, drove new generations to experience classic American films. The juries consisted of over 1,500 artists, scholars, critics and historians.

Entertainment Weekly is an American magazine, published by the Time division of Time Warner, that covers film, television, music, Broadway theatre, books and popular culture. EW’s primary concentration is on entertainment media and critical reviews.


Empire is a British film magazine published monthly by Bauer Consumer Media of Hamburg based Bauer Media Group. It is the biggest selling film magazine in the United Kingdom and is also published in the United States, Australia, Turkey, Russia, Italy and Portugal.
