The Pendagon Film Society is a co-operative of freelance film writers who all share a love for cinema. We operate as a research group, which was set up online in 2005 to study and debate cinema. Investigating what makes a great film, the society has the goal of searching out the best productions from across the globe with the hope of providing the best possible guide to what’s worth watching. One of the ways in which we look to achieve this is the publishing of an annual greatest films of all time list. The results are compiled from lists and poll ballots from both external sources and our website contributors.
We also provide links to where movie fans can legally watch and download films online. We do this as an Amazon Associate and earn from qualifying purchases.
The origins of the group go back to the original Pendragon Film and Historical Society that was started in the 1990s by Alan Campbell. In 2005 the society was broken in two, with one website run by the now defunct Pendragon film production company that covered film in general and promoted the semi-historical Arthurian ‘Pendragon’ film. The other website covered history, although concentrated mainly on all aspects of Arthuriana. Although the film project eventually failed the film society continued on, moving to the latest website in the summer of 2017.
The separate Arthurian site was discontinued in 2017 due to a variety of issues and some of that site’s content is on this site while we consider the way forward for the Arthurian Society. The primary idea behind the Arthurian section of the website was and still is to make connections with other Arthurian groups and enthusiasts and to help to generate interest in the many different areas of Arthuriana across the web.
